Bluetron will purchase batteries that still work well, but are normally replaced after two years in data centres. These batteries are thoroughly tested by Bluetron and reused with a type of guarantee, referred to as ‘2nd life’. This is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than using new batteries.
Bluetron sells these used batteries to companies that want to build energy storage systems, particularly in the agricultural sector. For example, Novum Blue, a partner of Bluetron, needs 1600 batteries for their storage systems. Bluetron places these batteries in containers, connects them and installs them on farms. Farmers can store excess energy and return it to the grid, creating a revenue model for them.
