Bluetron leads the revolution in energy storage with reused batteries
The overloaded energy grid can no longer handle additional energy, causing problems for businesses that cannot use their excess energy. Fortunately, there are solutions such as energy storage systems. The government is even investing 100 billion euros in these solutions and a significant part of that amount will go to energy storage.
Challenges
- Lack of capacity in the energy network.
- Need for energy storage systems to utilise excess energy and prevent power outages.
- Transition to sustainable energy sources such as wind and sun.
- Need for affordable and environmentally friendly solutions.
Solution and implementation
Bluetron will purchase batteries that still work well, but are normally replaced after two years in data centres. These batteries are thoroughly tested by Bluetron and reused with a type of guarantee, referred to as ‘2nd life’. This is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than using new batteries.
Bluetron sells these used batteries to companies that want to build energy storage systems, particularly in the agricultural sector. For example, Novum Blue, a partner of Bluetron, needs 1600 batteries for their storage systems. Bluetron places these batteries in containers, connects them and installs them on farms. Farmers can store excess energy and return it to the grid, creating a revenue model for them.
Benefits for Novum Blue
- Environmentally friendly: Reusing batteries reduces waste and promotes sustainability.
- Reduced CO2 emission: By extending battery life, companies can reduce their carbon emissions and meet CSRD obligations to report their environmental footprint.
- Cost savings: Using reused batteries is cheaper than purchasing new ones.
- Stability of the energy network: Energy grids are less burdened by energy storage systems, preventing power outages.
Partnership and collaboration
Bluetron works closely with Novum Blue to provide a sustainable and efficient energy storage solution. This partnership includes not only the supply of batteries, but also their management and maintenance, with Bluetron ensuring thorough checks and charging before the batteries are used.
Conclusion
Bluetron plays a crucial role in the energy transition by using reused batteries for energy storage systems. Through innovation, collaboration and environmental awareness, Bluetron contributes to a more sustainable future and offers solutions to the challenges of the overloaded energy network.
